Is Younique a Pyramid Scheme? What is Younique About?

The beauty sector is considered by many of us as one of the most profitable industries today. There was actually a time in the not so distant past that only the big, major companies are making huge money from this niche. They have the monopoly of the industry for decades.

Over the years, things changed for the better because today the beauty industry is offering greater and bigger opportunities for everyone. Hence, we have Maybelline, L’Oreal, Mary Kay, Avon, etc.. And numerous others are still popping out in the market.

One multilevel marketing company that caters to this industry which actually caught my attention is Younique. If you will search out the Internet for Younique product reviews, you will figure out that most of them are actually created or written by Younique resellers or network members. Thus, they are naturally on a more biased perspective about the company itself as well as the products they have on offer.

In that case, you can’t have an honest to goodness feel of whether or not joining this networking company is a boon or a bane. Please be advised that I am not associated with Younique in any way. Therefore you can count that I am going to give you my impartial and unbiased view about the company itself and all the things they have on offer.

If the underlying reason you are trying to make a background check on Younique is you want to look for ways to make money online, my best recommendation for this is to become an affiliate marketer instead.

What Is Younique?

What is Younique about? Without a doubt, the company name is catchy and attention-grabbing. But do not let yourself get swayed by it because they are not as unique as their name signifies. You will know the reason why.

Younique is an MLM company involved in the cosmetics industry. It was formed by a brother and sister tandem in 2012 by Melanie Huscroft and Derek Maxfield. The company mission was to “to empower, uplift and validate women from around the world.

The company was built on the premise of enriching the women of today. To give them the opportunity to grow personally and financially through the opportunities that will come by selling and marketing Younique products and items.

What Products Does Younique Have On Offer?

Makeup, and lots of it.

This explains the reason why the majority of its members are comprised mainly of women. The company is offering the usual types of a product range that you can expect to see in any woman’s vanity closet, from the eyes, lips and facial products.

When it comes to the price, the items would range from  $19 through $29 an item. They are actually not unreasonably expensive. Their face creams though could go high up as $65 plus, yet there is also a wide array of cheaper, more affordable products available.

The  Moodstruck 3D Fiber Lashes+ mascara is one of the most in-demand yet very controversial of all Younique products. The company is promoting this item as a powerful way to increase eyelash volume by up to 400%.

What is Younique About?

What makes this Younique product very intriguing is their claim that it contains 100% green tea fiber. The truth of the matter is, it does not even contain a  single green tea fiber. What it does have instead is ground-up nylon, and for all, we know this is unacceptable. Ground-up nylon can never be qualified as a natural ingredient in any cosmetic product.

You want proof, here you go for that:

Other cosmetic tools that Younique have on offer would have a price range of $7.50 through $32. Now, the quintessential question that many women are concerned about is, are Younique products too expensive?

Yes, they are costly, definitely.

It goes without saying that there is a manifold of high-end cosmetic items in the market, most especially the branded ones. However, in the case of Younique products, they are obviously not well known. Yet, it is preposterous for this company to have the audacity to command a high price for their items as the more popular brands.

Younique Product Reviews

As for their quality, we are in no position to tell or make an assumption that they are superior or inferior type because we have not tried any of those yet or have any plans to. One thing is certain though, their tag price is a bit expensive.

How to Get Started with Younique?

Before you can get started with Younique, much like any other MLM companies out there, you will need to purchase first their Starter or Presenter Kit valued at $99.

Usually, the starter kit would contain the following items:

  • Virtual Marketing Tools
  • Youniversity Training Academy (These are apparently training materials for new people in the MLM industry)
  • Basic product items, from mascara, mask samples, lipstick, eyeliner.
  • A dedicated website to help you in marketing Younique products to your circle.
  • Product catalogs

The one aspect in which Younique starter kit is a notch higher than other MLM companies is that it comes with a set of products the company is offering to market.

For your awareness, not all MLM companies are actually nice. In order to become a member of their network of sellers, you are necessitated to purchase a certain volume of their expensive items first, this is on top of your membership fee.

In Younique, purchasing your starter kit is the only requirement you need to get started.

The Younique Compensation Package

Like any other MLM companies, you can take advantage of Younique business opportunities as soon as you join the company. You can earn good amounts of money in commission sales by selling their products to your circle. Another option is to invite interested people to join the group.

Perhaps the one thing that makes Younique standout from all the rest of the MLM companies is the fact that they promote their products mostly through social media platforms.

Once you become a member of Younique, you’d be referred to as “presenter”. As a beginner or a newcomer to the network, you are in the white level and can earn a 20% commission from whatever sales you make.

After you purchase your starter kit valued at $99, you are expected to sell Youniuqe products valued at $125 in the following 3 months. This is required for you to remain a presenter. Most people will buy several items amounting to $125 and have them for personal use. Others will offer them up instead in their social accounts and sell them up to interested parties.

The moment that you reached the threshold sales of  $1000, you’d take step up the lather and be on the yellow level. In this level, your commission rate for your sales also increases, 20% you are now going to get a 25% commission across all product sales that you will make.

Following after the yellow status is the pink status. You get to this stage when you recruit somebody else (becoming your downline) and is selling items under you. Younique is big on members of their network who bring in more presenters (sellers).

Personally, you need to make sales valued at $250. For your downlines, they need to have a minimum sales amount of $,2000, otherwise, you will lose your current yellow status. From here, 25% of your sales is given to you as commission and 3% of your downline sales will be granted to you as well.

As your personal and company sales increases, so does your company and personal commissions, too. This explains the reason why it is so important for Younique members to bring in more people who are interested in the business.

If they see you have the potential of bringing in more people wanting to become Younique members, they will offset your sales requirement. This way you have a chance to focus on recruiting more people interested in the business.

The Ugly Truths Revealed?

Now, for the moment of truth, these points I have here are the reasons why you need to veer away from this company as much as you can. The vast majority of multilevel marketing companies tend to leave a bad taste in the mouths of many people for many good reasons.

Various complaints against Younique products

There are not only several complaints lodged against Younique products and services, but there are actually hundreds of them. Complaints would vary in nature, ranging from the quality of purchased products down to delays on delivery of service.

Younique Reviews

It only took me a couple of minutes to find at least 250+ consumer complaints against Younique products and services. You can reference them all from here.

Normally, the complaints you will see on this site are coming from no less than upset and angry customers who often whined that Younique products are so bad they didn’t even meet the basic quality standards.

Some of the common issues are as follows:

  • Mascara dries up so fast in as little as 3 weeks. It is a $30 value yet would only last for a week, then you will throw it away.
  • Liquid eyeliners won’t hold. Sometimes, they wouldn’t even work.
  • The lip stain is substandard and would actually leave a ring of color around your mouth.

Sourced from Youtube, here are some of the consumer complaints I found for your reference:

What I Do Like About Younique?

All the issues I raised in this review are valid points why you need to stay away from Younique. But not all about them can be considered as bad or not good. Here is one aspect of Younique worth alluding to.

The company is living up to its name in terms of its style of recruiting people and selling their products and services. They veered away from the traditional form of inviting people to join the network. Instead, they are harnessing the power of the social networks for this purpose.

This explains the reason why they have included in your Starter Kit the Virtual Marketing Tools and Virtual Party System. These tools will show you how you can host virtual parties, and from here you can drive the people into your website.

If a valid product purchase was made through your site, the product will be shipped directly to your customer’s address. By that virtue, you will earn a commission.

There is nothing for you to worry about. Even the aspect of shipping or keeping of an inventory. So much so that we can really describe this aspect of Younique as unique in its truest sense.

Is Younique a Pyramid Scheme?

For the record, Younique is not a pyramid scheme nor a scam. By definition, a pyramid scheming company, in order to lure you into their network, they would promise you to receive big returns and profits for your investment without receiving anything. No product or service would be extended to you in exchange for your money.

But in the case of Younique, they offering us tangible products that we can buy or sell to others if we opted to join their network. The secondary reason is, this  MLM company is not relying so much on recruiting people.

So these points we presented rules out that they are out to scam anyone of us. I think the most important thing we should be more concerned about is can we earn enough money from Younique?

I still doubt this part here considering the fact that Younique has notoriety for shoddy product range.

How I Make Money Online?

While I  have nothing against multilevel marketing companies, fact remains that this type of business structure is designed in such a way that pioneer members will earn big chunks of money.

As for the vast majority of the members down the line, they can only hope and dream about becoming big time one day. Or they may just opt to quit, which is the easier route to take.

Many people are duped into believing that multilevel marketing companies hold the key to financial wellness. But it takes a discerning mind to see the covert loopholes and discover the truth.

If your main purpose is to find a profitable way to make money online, my top recommendation would be to consider becoming an affiliate marketer instead. Well, besides the fact that I love the beautiful purple color of their products, it sounds like this is a company I would probably not want to market for.  I have to agree with your number 1 recommendation of Wealthy Affiliate.  I am a Premium member of that program, and it is legitimate, and you will be hard-pressed to find a negative review out there.  It really is as good as it claims, and it’s inexpensive when it comes to running your entire business.

  • Personally, I have never used this ML Younique company, but I have a very close friend who is very unhappy with the service that Younique provides for the price they charge for their products, my friend was telling me that she’d placed an order for the Royalty time night cream and the Royalty boosting gentle, she’s received only one of the product and she’s still awaiting the second product, and it has been 2 months now.
I think they should have at least send her an email but nothing, instead she’s to keep getting into the system and checking herself.
I believe this company is losing tons of customers.
Thank you for your great review.

Yes, I hear the complaint and poor service regarding their delivery service. I think they really need to improve this area in order not to lose any client anymore.

Wow… You’ve really torched these guys and so you should. I’m absolutely amazed they are still in business. It is not a niche I would be interested in… But it’s great your putting this out there. It’s a shame  really because complaints and posts about them will see them come and go quickly

Hi Dahay, Thanks for letting me know this review impact to you and your wife. If your wife wants at least more people in the same niche and majority in the same interest. Perhaps you can let her know that she can do the same in her Online Business as well.
