What Is A Website Builder? Which Is The Best One?

What is website builder about? Why so important choosing on the right builder for your website? If you want to know what is a website builder, it is actually a type of content management system (CMS). But unlike traditional CMS which are created to administer large websites, an online website builder is designed specifically for smaller website projects. With it, you don’t need any special programming skills to be able to build a website.

So most of the time I always have a question from myself – What is the best website builder for small business? What is the best website builder for blogging? Especially for beginners. Building a website require long term plan and hence you will need to choose the right one suit you the most. And there is too much info on the internet and might overwhelm you. Some said this and some say that. You have no guide at all? You dun wan to pay for a service that sucks right. Below are my preference list over the years in my online journey so that could save you tons of time of research. Let’s find out the best one.

Key Features of Site Builders

You can actually make a fully functional site with a website builder.  The good ones follow the principle of CMS for maintaining a strict separation between design and content. So that means websites designed in this way get indexed by search engines more easily. Moreover, making changes to the design or template of the site is easy, and there is no need to modify content in the process.

Who Should Use a Website Builder?

Website builders cater to individuals, freelancers, start-ups and small businesses that may or may not need an e-store. Some of these platforms are fully web-based such as Weebly and you can use the tools as long as you have a web browser. Other site builders are software that needs to be downloaded and installed on your PC. Both options have pros and cons and may benefit a certain type of user more than others.

Advantages of Fully Web-Based Platforms:

  •  There’s no need to install anything.
  •  You can work on your site no matter where you are.
  •  There is no updating software to worry about.
  •  Both the website builder and hosting are available from one provider.
  •  You don’t have to purchase any software.

Advantages of Offline Site Builders

  •  You’ll still be able to work on your site even if you don’t have the Internet connection.
  •  You get greater flexibility with FTP server access.

Best Website Builders for 2017

I’ve ranked the website builders from least favorite to most favorite. So let’s find out the best website builder that suit you the most;

#1 Webs.com

Most of the themes they have are outdated and the site pages have slow loading times. While I like that the drag and drop menu is easy to modify, the templates are a real turn off. There are widgets available, but most are clunky and look amateurish. Activating your Webs.com site will also take a long time and if you want to build an e-commerce store you can’t go beyond 25 products. But what I do like about this builder is that you get a free domain name and not just one, but 3 email accounts.

#2 Jimdo

This site builder only offers 17 themes, yup you read that number correctly – 17! While you can change or add text, colors, and images, all the rest of its features are complicated to use. If you go with a single page site, it’s actually cheap but if you want to sell products online, you’ll have to pay $240 a year which is pretty excessive considering the limited features you get. I wouldn’t really recommend this site builder for anyone who’s serious about starting an online business.

#3 WebsiteBuilder.com

This is a good website builder, but websites often have downtimes and slow page loads.  Even activating your website takes 2 days! But I do like that they have more than a thousand templates to choose from and building a site is really easy. The plans they have are also cheap, around 10 bucks a month.

#4 Weebly

This website builder has around 80 themes which look decent enough and you also get drag and drop customization choices so you can change elements easily. Now if the reason for building a site is to create an e-commerce store, you are limited to 25 products otherwise you have to pay $24 monthly if you want to showcase more products. You get free email and instant activation.

#5 SquareSpace

If you’re a photographer, interior designer, architect or real estate agent, you’ll love SquareSpace. The themes are mostly image oriented and they look elegant. But for newbies editing the templates can be difficult so there’s a bit of a learning curve. The prices are also expensive, and for a full-featured site, you’ll have to pay around $18 per month and email for $5 each a month.

#6 BoldGrid

This website builder is inexpensive and offers a lot of flexibility. But I hated the fact that it took me 2 hours before they activated my account. BOLDGRID has the biggest template database with highly customizable WP themes. It’s also very cheap. Technically, this site builder runs on top of WordPress. The only issue is that beginners will have quite a learning curve but once you’ve mastered it, you’ll be able to do just about anything with your site.

#7 Wix

If you’re looking for an easy to use website builder for beginners, WIX is a great option. It has over 300 templates and they even offer a cheap ad-free package. However, you’ll need to pay $5 for every email account and if you want to build an e-store, you’ll pay around $17 a month.

#8 SiteRubix

This platform is well known for the solid security features it offers. If you want a website that is fully secure from hackers and spammers, SiteRubix is an excellent option because they will monitor your site 24/7. You can choose from over 3,000 beautiful templates. What I really like about this platform is that it is extremely fast and reliable. I would recommend this website builder for anyone who is serious about getting more traffic for their website. Here’s the best part, you can use this platform at no cost! You get 2 free websites for free, No credit card required at all.  Although to be able to use some premium features, you’ll need to sign up for the paid version.

Final Thoughts

These days, building a website has become so easy with modern website builders available. But if you’re truly serious about achieving success on the Internet, it’s important to go with a proven and reliable site builder like SiteRubix. With this platform, you get a website that is fast, secure and beautiful. The most important that you get above what you pay for.
