What I Like About Namecheap

Here are the good things going for this company:

#1 Its interface is easy to use

The website’s UI, or its DNS manager, is very straightforward. Unlike the interface of other domain registrar companies, it’s uncluttered and methodical, and you’ll see all your options in the sidebar.

Navigating the site is very easy. With clunky DNS managers, you might make a mistake that can take your website down.

#2 It provides free DNS

Namecheap’s FreeDNS means you can make use of their DNS hosting service without spending anything. Their secure servers can really improve your site’s speed as well as enhance its performance.

#3 It provides tutorial videos

If you have any problems while using Namecheap’s services, you can easily resolve it thanks to the YouTube tutorial videos they have readily available on their site.

What I Don’t Like About Namecheap

There are several things that make Namecheap a great option especially for beginners but there are also some things that we don’t like.

To begin with, there’s no phone support. Understandably, there are very few issues with domain registration services that would warrant the need for phone support, but it certainly does not hurt to have this support feature just in case we’ll need it, right?

Next, they offer WHOIS Privacy Free but only for a limited time. More specifically, it’s only free for a year. Once your free period is over, you’ll pay $2.88 to keep your personal details private. Not a deal breaker but it’s worth taking into consideration as other competing services offer free WHOIS privacy features without any limits.

How Much Does It Cost?

There are so many domain extensions available through Namecheap and they vary in price. For the most widely used top level domain extensions (.com, .net, .co, and .org), the prices are:

  • $10.69 for .com
  • $12.48 for .net
  • $8.88 for .co
  • $11.48 for .org

For unique extensions (.build, .zone, .email, and .bid), you’ll have to pay more.  For a 1 year period the prices are as follows:

  • $59.88 for .build
  • $24.88 for .zone
  • $16.88 for .email
  • $25.88 for .bid

Namecheap also offers some highly unique top level domains for categories like Popular, Arts and Entertainment, Adult, Education, Business, Food, and Drink, etc. There are hundreds of unique extensions available which will help your business become more recognizable and unforgettable.

Namecheap also gives you the option to transfer domains to them, as well as buy personal domains.

Customer Support. Namecheap does not have phone support but it does offer email tickets, FAQs, live chat, knowledge base as well as how-to videos. There’s also the community forums which is very helpful.

Namecheap vs. Godaddy

Picking a domain name registrar can be confusing at times especially when you have to deal with two equally popular options, in this case Namecheap and GoDaddy. Both are ICANN-accredited domain registrar services and they also offer web hosting.

#1 Domain Registration Pricing

Registering a .com domain name on Namecheap, on average will cost around $10.29 / year while it is $12.99 on GoDaddy. But both domain registrars can give you coupon codes which let you take advantage of cheaper prices.

So when you use the coupon code in Namecheap, you can register a .com and pay only $3.98. With Godaddy using the cheapest coupon code will let you pay only $2.95 for a top level domain name. So in all likelihood, you can save more money when you go with Godaddy.

#2 Domain Control Panel

Your experience using and navigating the control panel can be a deal breaker when choosing a domain registrar. Both provide an easy to use control panel, however, Godaddy lets you manage all services in just one window which makes it even simpler.

#3 Customer Support

Both registrars’ customer support services are very reliable and helpful, and you can expect prompt responses every time. But as mentioned, you won’t get any phone support from Namecheap.
