These days, more and more people are thinking of earning from home by starting an online business. But what if you have little money to start with?
Well, I’m going to tell you now that YES you can start an online business with little money. I’ve done it, and many others have too.
Sure you might be limited to a very strict budget but you actually have many options. If you have the right combination of discipline, skills, work ethic and marketing abilities (which you can learn, BTW), then you have many opportunities in front of you.
Here’s a list of online businesses you can start today:
#1 Creating something
If you have a knack for arts and crafts you can make your own products and sell them on Etsy, such as jewelry and toys. You don’t need to spend a lot of money to buy raw materials either because many of these things are actually quite cheap and widely available.
If you’re the kind of person who doesn’t want to create something, then why not re-sell other people’s products instead? Amazon is making millions of dollars a month by becoming the central location where manufacturers can sell their own products. Of course, I’m not saying you compete with Amazon, you can simply create your own e-store where you can sell products like clothes, jewelry, food, and supplements.
This can be done through various channels, including:
- Drop shipping: Partner with drop-shipping companies who will handle all the order fulfillment for you.
- Thrift stores: You can find lots of great items at thrift stores, flea markets, and antique shops and resell them on your website. Some garage sales also have hard to find items that you can get for cheap.
#3 Selling your services
On the Internet, a lot of people make a living by selling valuable services. People earn good money by being a personal development coach, writer, digital marketing specialist, web designer, virtual assistant, teacher, and many others. If you have little to no money to start a business, then selling your services is really one of the best ways you can earn online.
Some services will necessitate advanced degrees, while others necessitate just basic knowledge of how it’s done. If you want to choose this kind of business, then make sure you build your brand and reputation so that you’ll be able to grow your client base. You can also promote your services in websites like Elance and Craigslist.
In the past blogging was just a way for people to express their thoughts and opinions but today, many are raking in thousands of dollars every month from their blog. So in a way, you should treat it as a business.
There are several ways people can make money from their blog. They can sell advertising space, they can write reviews of certain products/services in exchange for a fee, they can use Adsense, or they can venture into affiliate marketing.
Is Blogging a Good Way to Make Money Online?
I’ve been asked many times if it’s really possible to make money by blogging. So I’m going to be really upfront with you on this – yes you can make money blogging BUT not everyone who has a blog makes money.
So before you go into this “business” you have to ask yourself:
#1 Are you willing to put in a lot of hours working on your blog? When I first started, I’d work on my blog 12-14 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s tough work and many people I know gave up eventually.
#2 Do you enjoy writing? These days, you don’t really have to be a good writer to be able to create good content. But you have to be passionate about your blog so you can continue writing day in and day out. Sure, you can hire someone from Fiverr to create articles for you for $5 a pop. But if you have little money to start with, this may not be an option.
Besides, finding a quality writer this cheap is very difficult to do. I doubt if you can find someone who’s willing to spend hours doing research at this rate.
So at the very beginning, you have written your own articles, at least a few times a week.
#3 Do you know how to drive traffic to your website? Granted, such skills can actually be learned. But if you don’t possess these skills right now, then it only means you have to be willing to know as much as you can about stuff like SEO, email marketing, and social media marketing. If you’re not willing to learn, then you may as well seek other business options.
Monetizing Your Blog
As mentioned earlier, there are several ways you can make money from your blog. But once you have lots of good content on your site and a steady stream of traffic, I really recommend you do Affiliate Marketing.
With affiliate marketing, the sky is the limit in terms of how much you can earn. You just need to know how to grow your audience, convert your readers into buyers, and find the right affiliate products to promote.
